1984 was a great year in music for me. It was my first full year as a 10/11 year old having MTV, so the floodgates of my musical interests were blown wide open.
Here are some of my all-time faves from that historic year.
Might “When Doves Cry” be Prince‘s best composed song ever? It’s certainly a contender.
It’s inarguable that the album 1984 was Van Halen‘s peak with some of their best songs. “Panama” is definitely one of them.
Duran Duran‘s early 80s invasion of the U.S. was compared to the Beatles invasion of the mid-60s. I don’t know if they were that huge or as revolutionary, but they had great singles. For its time “The Wild Boys” was a big budget music video.
Letting the ladies of Bananarama close out this first installmet. Their song “Cruel Summer” is hands down one of my favorite songs of the 80s. Still a great dance song too.
This week’s Friday Flashback will be a double-shot, so check back in about an hour for the second installment.
